goodhood is one

GOODHOOD is probably my favourite apparel store in the world. It's a strong statement. The shop itself is well designed both physically and graphically, with an intimate feel minus any whiff of that elitist fashion snobbery. They stock independent brands that you won't find in every other shop or online store. Amongst some staple tees and bags there are garms and accessories that push a little more creativity and unusualness that encourages you to maybe take a trip outside your normal wardrobe. Jo & Kyle (owners) are some of the nicest people you will meet, and they know their shit, they've done their time.
So it was a joy to learn that they have succeeded in keeping their doors open for their first year. A feat so difficult for many others in these hectic times. To celebrate they had an understated get together at the store with plenty of beer, music and a run of free t-shirts for the lucky attendees. Big upz! Roll on year 2!

come down, and waste away

milan pt.2

So, in the evening we made our way to the adidas originals fashion show...

...which was in an out of town converted warehouse. Getting in was pretty strict as you can see with those two white blocks and a number of guest list staff. That didn't phase us though as we sneaked our spy from Benetton in.

Once in I had to get down to some work, which meant snapping all and everything.
Pre show interviews with Ben Pruce and Stan Smith. Yes, STAN SMITH!!

Once inside food and drink was laid on. Then the show began with a short intro film and suddenly a black curtain dropped to reveal this crazy house set up! This is going along with the 'House Party' theme which adidas are running with this season.

Models appeared from the back and dispersed around the house.
Some of them made me feel quite dizzy...

While others simply had an air of cheesy cliche about them . . .

The whole thing came to a close with a token indie band performing on the upper level of the house. Then everyone was enticed with more drink to step through the house and out in the courtyard once again to enjoy . . .

... food ...

... more and more drink ...

... and cake! They must have known it was Saya's Birthday.

Saya - tanjyoubi omedetou deshita!

milan pt.1

Over the weekend I went to Milan to take photos at an adidas originals fashion event. I only knew about it on Thursday and the spontaneity of it all was actually very nice.

I set off on Saturday morning. The plane seemed to lack any branding, which was a bit worrying. I mean, imagine if we went missing, how would the authorities find a plane with no name?

My 'boss', checking out the view.

And what a view it was...

Magazine on the plane. What the hell is the deal with this advert? Europeans are so strange.

From a blank plane to a 5 star hotel. This is getting to be more like the lifestyle I am used to.

My room had a lot of wood in it. Nice.

The fancy ceiling in the lounge/bar.

My super hot friend Saya happened to be in Milan, so we hooked up and decided to head into town for a look around... Only 1 euro for a train ride, plus it was quick, easy and clean. London has got it so wrong.

The local FootLocker was heaving...

Some b-boys and b-girls trying out their moves in the street. I think due to public noise restrictions, they were dancing to possibly the quietest stereo in the world.

Duomo Cathedral. Pretty impressive. Especially those big 'ESPRIT' banners either side.

So after a wander and a 'cappuccino, grazie' we headed back to the hotel and then onto the adidas event, which I shall post tomorrow...

give blood

Today I went and gave blood. I have never done this before and it was only brought to my attention when my friend fell ill with Cancer. He worked his way through 100's of units of blood. If it wasn't for blood donors there is no way he would have had a chance of surviving.
I was surprised at how easy it is to go and give blood. I just looked up online a few days ago and saw that they set up a clinic every week locally to me. So I registered, clicked on an appointment slot and that was it, done.

So I took some pics of my donation. Some of you might be a little squeemish, but trust me, none of it hurts!

First up is to take a small sample to make sure my blood is real and not strawberry milk or ketchup.

It sinks, that's good apparently.

Then for the main donation. I'm about to fill this bag.

Needle goes in. Honestly, it doesn't hurt :)

Whoops spilled a bit. Haha.

Yea filling up nicely...

One bag of warm Jeff Metal blood. That will hopefully make a really tasty super shake for someone. Bit worried though that it looks BLACK. Oh well.

And that is that. All finished. They even give you drinks and snacks afterwards. One thing I wouldn't recommend is to go out drinking afterwards which is what I did. After losing 1 pint of blood you are more susceptible to getting drunk. After a couple of drinks I was out of it and had to be told off for throwing ice cubes across a table.

Anyway, I know I might sound like an advert, maybe so, but I do recommend it to everyone. It's so easy to go and do and you can help to change or even save peoples lives. DO IT!

sunday stroll

I met up with my good friend Jamey who I used to DJ with back when UK Hip Hop was exciting. We wandered around the Barbican Centre on a little photo outing, just to see what kind of pics we could get. I used it as an opportunity to get to grips with my new tilt/shift lens.

This is just a small selection. I have uploaded the rest to my flickr page here.
